It's Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA

OK, excuse time: My mom -- and then my younger sister and her boyfriend -- came to visit from California, so I've been concentrating on spending my free time with them instead of reading.

That said, I couldn't help but pick up a few books from the library last week that appealed to my interest in multicultural children's literature. This may seem almost silly, but I really like being introduced to new things through children's books. I'm more of a Jack-of-All-Trades kind of person, so I like to learn things across a wide variety of topics, and reading shorter children's books helps me to do that. If I find something in particular I'm really interested in, I can then find more books and resources. This week's selection was particularly good for learning about the Choctaw Nation (Crossing Bok Chitto by Tim Tingle) and their relationship with African American slaves.
