It's Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA

Despite high hopes of reading the four books I brought with me to the desert, I only managed to finish one by Thursday, the day before our departure. Having to pay attention to your child in the pool certainly distracts from reading! I did, however, plow through my second selection, Murder is Bad Manners, in a day so it averaged out to two books in five days. That's not too bad, I guess.

[To rehash the concept :: post what you read last week, what you're reading now, and what you plan to read this week. If you have a review of the book(s), great! If you have a picture of the book(s), wonderful! If you have a book giveaway, fantastic! If you just list the title(s) of the book(s), not a problem! Make it as simple or as complex as you need it to be. At least, that's the message I got. This version of the meme is hosted by Jen and Kellee of Teach Mentor Text, which, in turn, was inspired by Sheila over at Book Journey, who hosts the original It's Monday! What Are You Reading?]

WHAT I READ LAST WEEK:

The Doldrums by Nicholas Gannon

Murder is Bad Manners by Robin Stevens

WHAT I'M READING NOW:

The Thrilling Adventures of Lovelace and Babbage: The (Mostly) True Story of the First Computer by Sydney Padua

WHAT I PLAN TO READ THIS WEEK:

The Night Parade by Kathryn Tanquary (publication date: January 2016)

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA

I'm currently on vacation from my vacation; my kids and I are spending a week in the Palm Springs area (in California) with my parents, which is an annual tradition. I'm hoping to get some reading done pool-side and lounging around in our air-conditioned suite. I brought a few physical books to read outside, and I would like to make a (small) dent in the massive number of e-ARCs I've accumulated from NetGalley.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA

I'm on vacation right now so you would think a lot of reading was getting done. But I'm spending time with family and getting a ton of sleep (I didn't realize I was actually that tired!) so this was a remarkably slow reading week. I hope to get back on track soon when I go on vacation from my vacation (I'll explain later) and I can while away the hours with my books.

Besides the books below, I also acquired the newest volumes (in Japanese) of Hana Yori mo Hana no Gotoku (花よりも花の如く) by Minako Narita and Fumi Yoshinaga's two series, Ooku (大奥) and What Did You Eat Yesterday? (昨日何食べた?). Yoshinaga's works are translated into English and are worth a read in my opinion. Ooku, in particular, has a dense, fascinating storyline (alternate history of Edo-period Japan) and I'm learning a lot by reading it.

As a side note, cover images may be lacking in the weeks ahead because I'm using my iPad to post and it's a pain in the butt to link in images.
